Leaving The Crowd

"Leaving the crowd, they took Him…."
Mark 4:36

Taking Jesus requires leaving the crowd, and like the Twelve, leaving the crowd is the only way by which we can get to the other side with Him.

According to the Scriptures, Jesus was a master teacher unlike anyone the people had ever heard. He captured attentions, captivated multitudes, and confounded skeptics every time He opened His mouth. Even still, when our Lord began to discuss the weightier matters of discipleship, it didn't take long for the crowds to disperse.

"Will ye also go away?"

The crowd in Jesus' day was satisfied with a show. They wanted an experience, an event. They wanted to be entertained and coddled. They wanted to be spoon fed warm, sweet milk and insulated from all contact with the stuff of earth.

Two thousand years later, nothing has changed.

The crowd never wants to be asked to do anything. Therefore, obedience to Christ always involves leaving the crowd.

Has Jesus given you something to do? Then for God's sake, do it! Leave the crowd and their complacency on the shore. Take Him, brave the waters, strain against the oars through whatever storms you encounter, and experience a perspective of Jesus that can only be viewed from the other side.
